Considering we used to live within spitting distance of Becher's Brook and the Grand National course, I never really got the thing about horses, until the other week!
Got this horse riding session set up by Terri, a Maori lady who I work with, I had mentioned that Jan loves horses, and she said that she would see if she could set up a session with her friends riding school. Thought nothing more of it until she phoned me to tell me that we could go over to Rotorua one weekend in return for a small favour, installing a telephone extension for the lady concerned.
I had to let Jan know because circumstances meant I had to, but the kids didn't have a clue what was going on. They moaned about not wanting to go to "stinky Rotorua" but we got them there in the end.
As it turned out the extension wasn't required, but when we got there we were greeted by a lovely lady called Nikki. She owned the riding school and was a mine of information about the local area. She set us up with a horse each as she was telling us her dreams about the place. The funniest thing was that the helmets that we had to wear had "Aintree" all over the front, talk about weird!
Anyway, we had a fantastic couple of hours riding up in to the hills over Rotorua, and we were hooked. I didn't particularly want to go, and was quite happy to have been the camera person, but as it turned out, I loved it. I can't wait to go and have another go, and Nikki is keen for us to go too. All I have to do is get her daughters internet set up, small price to pay for such a fantastic time.
