We have had 2 days now of rain, quite torrential at times for really prolonged periods. The farmers are thrilled as it ends the drought we have had for months, and it is a blessing in that it has provided our own gardens with a good soaking and washed all the dust off the houses that has been gathering on them for months.
Sadly a man riding his horse up in Northland has been killed today with the huge amounts of thunderstorms sweeping the upper half of the north island. Our own power failed for a few hours earlier on as a probable result of a lightning strike somewhere close by.
It is forecast for the rest of the week, and the organisers of the Hamilton V8 races must be hoping it stops before then because it will decrease crowd numbers.
