Had my knee done yesterday - private hospital in Hamilton, very nice.
Picked up Jan from work a little early, got there for 4pm, admitted and put in room where the nurse went through everything with me, anaesthetist (who looked like Collina the scary Italian referee - minus the poppy eyes of course) came in to check me out, explained the procedure, absolute star he was, very funny. Watched TV until things started to happen.
Then the surgeon came rushing in, he had been behind time but had caught up, told me I would be in theatre at 5.30, sure enough, the nurse took me down in the bed just before 5.30. I hobbled in to theatre, hopped on to the table and had the canula put in to my arm with lots of joking from said anaesthetist! He mentioned that I may be felling a bit woozy, so there must have been some sedative on the canula itself - then the mask went on and I was gone! Next thing I remember was complaining to the nurse for waking me up from a nice dream, even though I can't remember a thing about it!!!! :)
Once I had recovered, they wheeled my back to my room, it was great seeing Jan waiting there for me.
I was given some ice water which was like nectar, then had some soup, sandwiches and jelly and ice cream followed by a cup of coffee - lovely.
Stopped off at a pizza shop on the way home for Jan who was hungry. Got one for myself because I was still peckish, had a couple of slices sitting in Hamilton Gardens access road with a big bottle of Schweppes orangeade. Got home and still reeling a bit, very unsteady. Bit of tinkering then it was bed, but didn't sleep at all well, restless. Got up at 1am for more painkillers and had a few cups of chocolate and toast/muffins - still peckish! Back to bed after this and still restless, lot of pain. So just have to recover now, going to be a very lazy weekend, can't exactly do much in my current state.
