Paddy did a runner the other day, had us all in a big panic. He'd been walkies down by the river, and I let him off on the big field. Next thing, his nose glued to the ground and he was off! He must have picked up a scent, and all the whistling and shouting had no effect whatsoever. He was away, right next to the main road, and ol' peg leg here couldn't do anything quick. I got in the car and chased up the hill but he was nowhere to be seen. Panic ensued, even thought he had gone to Jan's workplace, she joined me in the search, in total shock and in tears....
Anyway, after an hours frantic searching, I whizzed home in the car and phoned the council - thankfully they had just had a phone call to say that a "miniature schnauzer had been reported and is in the accountants in town". The little bugger had only walked across the high level bridge, in to town and tagged on to a lady walking an Alsatian. She took him in to the accountants who phoned the council and looked after him. Poor Jan was left sobbing by the river as I raced across to get him. When I eventually got to her, with make-up streaked down her tear strewn face, what did he do? He barked at her :D Little bugger, but the relief was immense. We were just so glad to have him back in our clutches, and the kids were totally oblivious to it all - thank goodness.
