Cambridge rolled out the red carpet for the returning Olympians today. The town centre was closed off and a whole cavalcade of cars, boats, classic cars and champions paraded past, drenched in confetti and streamers. The local school kids all went to see the parade and were involved in the proceedings and given balloons to liven the scene up. Louisa managed to shake hands with all the athletes as they drove slowly by, something she will remember for a long time.
It was nice to see the athletes, and their medals, in such close proximity, no fences to separate people and there were many hands offered to congratulate them. The weather was lovely too which added to the occasion.
