Like this picture of Jan and Louisa sitting on a rock at Marakopa beach. It is black volcanic sand and about 1 1/2 drive from ours on the Tasman side (next stop Australia). The beach is backed by big cliffs and is very popular for the fishing, but it is just nice to sit and watch the white surf pound the rocks as you soak up the sun.
