He's a workin' man now...

Kieran and the rest of his year 8 colleagues went out on work experience day today, to raise funds for the school and at the same time gain valuable insights into the working environment.

He tried to get in to the bike and lawnmower shop in town, but they never contacted him which was a bit disappointing. But he asked our friends if he could work on their farm and they agreed. So he met up with 2 of the other girls from school at 9 am on a typically foggy Waikato morning.

He got togged out in his best countryside clothes (Ridgeline fleecies with "gumboots" and gaiters), took his lunch and off he went.

They got to feed them first, then they cleaned out the troughs, had lunch, shifted the Alpacas down out of the paddock and then learnt what it is all about - at close quarters if you know what I mean!! Nature in all it's glory. They then checked out some of the females to see if they were pregnant using ultrasound and got to look at the babies inside the mums.

After all this they then got to prepare all the stuff for agricultural field days which is coming up next week, the biggest in the southern hemisphere, held just down the road from here.

He came home, very tired but content and a lot wiser. We have to agree that chances like this in Liverpool would be virtually nil, especially experiences like this.

Now just have to chase him off to bed and get him ready for his football match tomorrow.... kids eh? hahaha

Oooh I love alpacas! I quite fancy getting a few of them when I make the move to NZ. Coincidentally, I did a double-take when looking at your dodgy knee pic - you're an Evertonian too! Good stuff, I enjoyed the blog.
