Maraehako Bay

It was Louisa's 10th birthday on Sunday, and Jan drove us over to Maraehako Bay retreat for a couple of days break over the weekend. This is over on the Pacific coast on the East Cape of NZ. What a drive it turned out to be, over 4 hours, but it was worth it. This place is set in an absolutely beautiful location, with stunning sunsets over the bay, White Island volcano on the horizon and lovely crystal clear blue seas.

It was a pity my knee is so damaged because I would have been on the rocks fishing. As it was I had to sit and watch the kids enjoying themselves on the rope swings over the river, flipping off and dropping in to the water. They did a bit of snorkelling too. (what I would have done to be enjoying that with them!) But at the end of the day it was a relaxing time and a surprise for Louisa's 10th birthday.
