ANZAC

Just been to the dawn service outside the town hall - it was cold and foggy which added an air of stillness to the scene. It was absolutely heaving with people of all ages. Uniformed soldiers provided a guard of honour at the cenotaph while veterans stood in ranks in the square, resplendent in jackets with their medals proudly on show.
The band played Abide with me to start the morning, the national anthem and a couple of other hymns we scattered throughout the half hour service.
As the haunting final notes of the last post sounded, a gun salute rent the air, bloody moving spectacle it was and one that I will remember.

Looking out of the window now the sky is tinged with pink as the sun comes over the hills, the mist hanging there with trees silhouetted against the sky. It really is a beautiful morning, I'm glad I made the effort and got up early.
