Louisa went to stay with her friends on their Alpaca farm this afternoon after her netball match.
We ended up going up the hill to their house and had a cuppa and chat with their parents, Tasha and Chris, before taking a walk up to the top of their highest paddock to look at the views.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon, and we saw everything, Maungatautari reserve, Pirongia, Cambridge, Karapiro lake and dam with the Kiwi farm in the foreground.
Then we trecked down to find the kids who had gone down to bottle feed one of the orphaned Alpacas. We missed this, but ended up going in to the paddock and getting a good close up of these beautiful creatures. There were 2 young ones, one born yesterday and the other just today!
The kids by this time were scooting round the field on the quad bike, and it was a joy to see their faces and realise that they are so lucky to get this close to nature on a regular basis. We were given a lesson in Alpaca biology and their reproductive traits, a great lesson from Tasha who really knows her stuff. So after a very pleasant couple of hours we traipsed off home, leaving Louisa behind going up the hill in a trailer behind the quad bike with her friends....
